- Real Madrid drew 1-1 with Atlético Madrid in the eighth round of the Spanish top flight
- It was on Sunday night that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was injured
- The 32-year-old Belgian is expected to be out for around two weeks
It was already looking like a slender 1-0 win when Éder Militão scored in the 64th minute of the Madrid derby, but injury time eventually decided the two teams to share the points. Ángel Correa equalised in the 95th minute.
The White Ballet therefore reduced the lead of leading Barcelona to just one point and now trails the LaLiga leader by three points. Real, on the other hand, have a two-point lead over third-placed Atlético. As always, Real’s game was saved by the reliable goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
But as Carlo Ancelotti revealed on Sunday evening, the thirty-two-year-old Belgian will not be between the three sticks for some time. The club have confirmed that Courtois has a problem with his left adductor in his thigh.
According to daily AS, one of the world’s best goalkeepers is still expected to be out for around two weeks. He will therefore definitely miss the Champions League match against Lille and also the upcoming home game against Villarreal.
Barring any complications, Courtois could reportedly return to action on October 19. However, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on the X network writes that the Real number one is not expected to return before the end of the national break.
The injury to the Belgian goalkeeper therefore means that Andriy Lunin is very likely to reappear in goal. He recently signed a new contract with the Madrid club until 2030 and will get his first chance since last season.
In addition to the two games mentioned above, Real have a duel with Celta Vigo in October (on 19 October), then the Champions League clash with Dortmund (22 October) and, above all, El Clásico (26 October).
