Monday will be a little later in Madrid. Sunday night in the Spanish capital was the famous derby between Atlético and Real. The holders of a total of forty-seven titles (Real have 36) met in the eighth round of LaLiga.

Any point gain would reduce the lead of the leading Barcelona, which on Saturday committed on the ground of Osasuna Pamplona (4:2). In the end, both teams succeeded. Antoine Griezmann was not missing from the home team’s starting line-up, the Frenchman starting his 500th match in the top Spanish competition.

Kylian Mbappé, on the other hand, was absent from the away white jersey due to a muscle injury. Yet it was the visitors who struck first. Captain Modric dribbled into the penalty area from the left and played the ball to Bellingham. But the Englishman couldn’t reach it.

There was a similar pass on the other side. Julian Álvarez decided to finish on his own, but Courtois was alert. More than 70,000 spectators saw this beautiful action in the 17th minute. Federico Valverde took a long-range shot, but the great Cloud covered his shot.

After Real Madrid scored a goal, the game was interrupted

A cautious first half still saw Bellingham’s shot from just outside the box. Otherwise, though, it was mostly midfield and defensive play reigned supreme. Rodrygo demanded a penalty before going into the box, but the referee remained indifferent to his request.

Diego Simeone sent on his usual captain Koke for Molina in the second half. The first excitement after half-time was provided by Rodrygo, whose technical shot from outside the box failed to find the net. His national teammate Eder Militao was more successful. The stopper, following a centre by Vini Júnior, shot past Oblak – 1: 0.

After the Brazilian’s goal, home coach Simeone had to go to calm down the excited fans who were throwing objects into the pitch. The game was suspended for 20 minutes. When he returned to the pitch, Vini Júnior flashed a nice shot, but Oblak spoiled his goal joy with a beautiful save.

Samuel Lino could have equalised after a great individual effort. The winger replaced Sorloth on the pitch and after his nice zigzag and incisive shot, Courtois had a lot to do to prevent the equaliser. Already in injury time, the celebrated Griezmann tried nicely from a penalty kick.

At the very end, Angel Correa got in an independent break, took a corner and evaded Courtois and was lucky to get the ball into the net. It was still being investigated for offside. So the wildness in Madrid ended in a draw and also a sending off for Marcos Llorente.
