We don’t want a racist as captain, Chelsea fans are clear. Enzo burnt out on performance
They lost after a decent performance to last season’s champion, they could have walked away with honour, but the coach’s move with the captain’s armband didn’t endear them to the fans. Chelsea players face criticism from their own supporters, mainly because of Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea played a perhaps surprisingly even game against Manchester City. They scored from offside, missed a couple of chances and only Mateo Kovacic’s goal in the final minutes put them out of the game 0-2.
We don’t want a racist captain!
A decent team performance by the Blues was somewhat overshadowed by other circumstances. And Chelsea actually had themselves to blame when they gave the captain’s armband to Enzo Fernandez. He made a racist remark during the Copa America triumph celebrations in the summer, which affected some Blues players.
“I think Enzo started and buried this game because they made him captain,” wrote user Cixpo in a liked comment under Chelsea’s Facebook post.
The appointment of Fernandez as captain was the main reason why Chelsea fans booed disapprovingly several times during the first half. New manager Enzo Maresca could have angrily turned on the stands all he wanted, he caused his own problems by choosing the captain.
He didn’t stand up to the game either
Enzo didn’t defend his armband with his performance either. Although the Blues had an extra man in midfield compared to the Citizens, they were far from dominant in the middle of the park. Of the trio of Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo was clearly the worst.
“How can you substitute Lavia and leave Enzo in? I don’t understand this move by the coach,” wondered a Baba supporter.
The truth is that by substituting Lavia, the midfield lost all the rest of its solidity, hence the second goal conceded. Lavia was sovereignly Chelsea’s best midfielder, most fans did not understand why he was substituted.
