David de Gea’s last engagement was with the Manchester Red Devils. He transferred to United in 2011 from Atlético Madrid and spent an admirable 12 seasons in Manchester.
In 12 years in Manchester, he managed to win one league trophy, one FA Cup winner’s trophy, two English League Cups, two English Super Cup trophies and one Europa League trophy.
The Spanish goalkeeper’s contract at United expired in the summer of 2023, but it was expected that de Gea would soon find a new engagement. However, the opposite was true, months passed and the Spaniard was still without an engagement. It looked like the Spaniard had secretly retired and his name would be quietly forgotten by all football fans.
But now everything is different and David de Gea is preparing a spectacular comeback!
According to Fabrizio Romano, he has agreed on terms at Fiorentina and is expected to undergo a medical in the near future and sign a contract until the summer of 2025 with a possible option for one more year.
So all signs point to Czech Antonín Barák welcoming a new teammate with a very big name and history to Fiorentina. Thirty-four year old Pietro Terracciano was the number one goalkeeper for Florence this season, so we will see if David de Gea replaces him as number one.
Fiorentina finished 8th in the league last season, which secured them Conference League qualification. So we could see De Gea again in European competitions. Before the start of the new season, the Violets have already brought in three reinforcements and de Gea could become the fourth summer signing.
The transfer should be officially completed by the end of this week. So let’s see if it really happens and the former Spanish national team goalkeeper signs after a year off at Fiorentina in Italy.
