Last chance for Djokovic! Will the Serbian phenom complete his collection?

Novak Djokovic is one of the playing legends of tennis. The Serbian has 24 Grand Slam titles to his credit, but Olympic gold continues to elude him. At 37, he will most likely have one last chance to break his curse. Can he do it in Paris?

Novak Djokovic is undeniably one of the best tennis players in history. Many statistics place him on the highest podium. He is the owner of 24 Grand Slam trophies, ten of which he won at the Australian Open.

He has won the Masters Tournament seven times, which is also the highest number. He has won an incredible 98 titles on the ATP circuit, but his collection continues to lack Olympic gold.

His only medal at the Olympics to date came in 2008 in Beijing. He beat James Blake in two sets in the bronze medal match. In the semi-finals, he lost to Rafael Nadal, the later champion.

He also reached the semi-finals at the 2020 Olympics, but was stopped by Germany’s Alexander Zverev, despite losing the opening game 1:6. In the remaining two sets, he allowed the Serb only four games in total.

In Paris, Djokovic, the current world number two, will probably have one last chance to win Olympic gold. This year he celebrates his 37th birthday. While his participation in the Olympics cannot be ruled out, it is highly unlikely that he will have the highest ambitions even four years from now.

Will Djokovic win Olympic gold?

Because he is already gradually handing over the throne to the next generation. In the calendar year 2024 he continues to wait for his maiden trophy, the closest he has come to it was at Wimbledon. However, he lost the final to Carlos Alcaraz in three sets at the All England Club.

This year’s Olympics will be played in Paris on the clay courts of Rolland Garros, which the Serb has captured three times. The advantage for him may be that it is played only in two winning sets, however, until 2016 the final duel was played in three winning sets.

His biggest competitors will of course be Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner again. The reigning champion Zverev, who boasts a great record of 44 wins and only 13 losses this year, will definitely want to succeed.
