The most valuable tournament of the whole week deserves a proper finale. The tournament in Hamburg got it. And it certainly wasn’t just because Alexander Zverev, who is the home player and defending champion, was in the final.

Of course, this does not change the fact that Fils has made his way into the ATP top 20 for the first time in his career after his triumph in the final. Zverev, on the other hand , has experienced the bitterness of the final defeat for the second time in a row and his attack on the ATP top three is postponed for at least some time.
