This is how legends are born! UFC 303 dropped one of the main draws, three hours before the fight, the American “gangster” saved the fight
You don’t see that anymore. UFC 303 was plagued from the beginning with problems of one fight after another falling apart. And it happened on the day of the gala. But one of the main card bouts was saved by the American “gangster” just three hours before the fight.
You don’t see that anymore. UFC 303 was plagued from the beginning with problems of one fight after another falling apart. And it happened on the day of the gala. But one of the main card bouts was saved by the American “gangster” just three hours before the fight.
Conor McGregor, Jamahal Hill, Khalil Rountree, Carlos Ulberg, Michael Chandler… It wasn’t just these stars who were scheduled to appear at the UFC 303 gala in Las Vegas. However, none of them attended as fighters and the action had to be saved by heroes taking last-minute duels.
Jiri Prochazka, Alex Pereira, Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes were the biggest payers, having agreed to participate in the tournament roughly two weeks before it took place. Pereira took probably the biggest risk, he may lose his title in case of defeat.
But now they’ve all been trumped by Dan Ige. His name doesn’t ring a bell? Well, it’s time to change that. That’s how legends and gangsters are born. At least, that’s how the experts and the fans see it. The UFC has pulled a thorn out of its side like no one else in modern history.
Dan Ige saved UFC 303
As mentioned, Brian Ortega was one of the biggest heroes of the UFC 303 gala. Sadly, that won’t and isn’t the case in the end. He failed to make weight in the first round, was unable to make weight in the second round, and had to change the weight class for his bout with Diego Lopez.
The Brazilian agreed to it. Only, during the gala, the fight was cancelled. Ortega is ill and can’t make the fight. Lopez, however, will not miss the fight. Dan Ige, who took the fight just three hours before it was scheduled to start, will be in action.
He’s signed up for it himself and has won a lot of admiration. He may not be one of the biggest stars, but he’s experienced, seasoned, dangerous. He holds a 10-6 record in the organization, and by signing up to fight Lopez, he has gained a lot of attention. If he were to win, it would be incredible.
Many experts, fighters and fans say he deserves the BMF title, he’s been called a gangster. But Lopes deserves just as much praise. He could have refused, he didn’t. In addition, his weight class has been changed once again to the contracted weight class.
Hats off to both of them!
