The EURO is in full swing and Tuesday concluded the first round. The biggest surprise came from the Slovaks, who beat Belgium. They needed a good piece of luck, which the Czechs lacked against Portugal.
Now the opening matches of the second round are over and the Germans are back. After a big win against Scotland, they challenged Hungary, who were not able to beat Switzerland and needed to get at least a point.
The home team had the first chance of the match. Kai Havertz got to the ball and after processing it, he sent a shot at the Hungarian goal. But goalkeeper Peter Gulasci made an excellent save.
In the 12th minute, Robert Andrich’s shot was again stopped by a defender. In the 22nd minute, however, the Germans took the lead when Ilkay Gündogan found Jamal Musiala and he slotted the ball past a defender.
The Hungarians managed to equalise late in the first half when Willi Orban’s header found the post before Roland Sallai headed the ball into the net. Unfortunately for them, Orban was offside and it was 1:0.
After the change of sides, Hungary continued to play good football, but Barnabas Varga’s header didn’t end up in the net. The equalizer never came, as Gündogan scored after an hour of play.
He had a lot of space in the penalty area and sent the ball down the ground to the bar. Gulásci could only watch the ball go behind him. The crowd in the stadium didn’t see another goal and Germany are the first to qualify for the Euro after a 2-0 win.
