Sancho will leave Manchester United. Will he return to Dortmund?
When Sancho moved to Old Trafford ahead of the 2021/22 season after a spell in the yellow jersey of Borussia Dortmund, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he was and would be a world class player. Three years later, he is being talked about as a wasted talent or a faded star. Whether coach Erik Ten Hag leaves or stays, the English footballer will leave the Red Devils.

Dortmund paid Manchester City just under €21 million for the 17-year-old Sancho in 2017. At the time, he still had no experience of adult football, but even so, Borussia were not afraid to pay considerable money.
Sancho hit the ground running in his first season after arriving in 12 games, in which he did score once and assist four times on a league goal, but fans were worried that their club had wasted too much money on such a player. Nobody probably expected what would await him at Dortmund.
In the next three seasons, he showed the whole world when he managed to score 48 goals in the 124 games he intervened in and added 52 assists from the wing position. Unfortunately for him, it was only enough to win one domestic cup in the 2020/21 season. His ability to get past several players and his productivity caught the attention of several clubs.
A nightmare at Old Trafford
Machester United acquired him for €85 million in the summer of 2021. His first season in a red jersey certainly didn’t go as well as everyone expected. He scored just 3 goals in the league and added the same number of assists. Everyone thought that the reason was his missed penalty in the Euro 2021 final, thanks to which Italy dominated the Euros, while he received a lot of criticism.
However, when he failed in his second season, everyone saw that something was wrong. He was no longer the player who was going around one opponent after another. But at the start of his third season with the Red Devils, word surfaced that he had a falling out with coach Ten Hag.
According to the Dutch coach, he wasn’t performing well in training and he wasn’t even trying, so he didn’t give him space in games and eventually sent him to train with the reserve team. In the first half of this season, he appeared in only three games for Manchester United.
In the second half of the season, he got a chance to go on loan back to Dortmund where he shone again. The joy of football was evident again. Although his number of “Canadian points” was not rich, he showed what he had in him again. He helped Dortmund to the Champions League final, which the club did after 11 years.
Manchester United management decided to sell him, not wanting to keep him even after his excellent performances in the spring. United are aiming for a price of 40 million euros, a sum that is not a problem for Borussia.
