Real Madrid are stepping up in a big way, while Barcelona have to keep a low profile. The winner of 15 Champions League titles has acquired Kylian Mbappé and is still trying to bring in Alphonso Davies, the Catalan giant must also let its appetite for similar star reinforcements go due to the difficult financial situation.
Despite this, club president Joan Laporta commented briefly on Mbappé’s arrival at the age-old rival. “When you’re a Barcelona fan, it’s not good news. But honestly, I prefer our strategy of trusting the project with our La Masia offspring. I respect our rivals, but I want to preserve our philosophy,” Fabrizio Romano quotes him as saying.
Meanwhile, a report that Barcelona were close to acquiring Mbappé in 2017 also resonated through the media recently. It declined. Instead, it paid an astronomical sum for perpetual maroon Ousmane Dembélé.
But back to the present. The Blaugranas are tackling how to keep the team as strong as possible. What is certain is that Hansi Flick will lead it into the new season as head coach. Laporta revealed that he has been thinking about bringing in a German strategist since he took over the club’s management.
According to him, the former Bayern pilot started studying the team the moment Xavi was announced, all the reviews about him are said to be extremely positive. It had to happen, the Catalan boss is clear.
Barcelona reveal transfer plans
As already mentioned, Barcelona can’t exactly jump up and down in the transfer market. But the good news is that, according to Joan Laporta, they don’t have to sell any of their key players. Still, he obviously won’t be going after any big stars.
Joshua Kimmich or Martín Zubimendi have been linked with a move to the Catalan capital. “I don’t think we will go after big names, just as we don’t plan to sell any of our stars. But we are looking for a new winger and a new midfielder. We also have our talents who can cover these positions,” the club president responded to the speculation.
Interestingly, Robert Lewandowski gave up financial benefits to stay in Catalonia. As far as the squad is concerned, the Portuguese duo of Joao Félix and Joao Cancelo are expected to remain in the squad, but they are only on loan.
“Deco (sporting director – ed.) is already working on it, we want them both to stay. Félix’s quality is excellent, I am happy with his season. After all, Hansi Flick wanted him when he was coaching Bayern,” Joan Laporta concluded.
