Austria defeated Norway on Sunday afternoon with a quite comfortable result of 1:4. Thanks to the win, the Austrians can continue to dream of a historic qualification to the quarter-finals, which is not in their hands. The game was decided mainly by the second period, which Norway lost 0:3.
The Norwegians started their fight for survival with the game against Austria, as they are second to last in Group A with 3 points. On Monday, the Norwegians will face a crucial match against Great Britain, which they must not lose. The team with star Mats Zuccarello is not performing well at all and thus staying in the elite group gets top priority.
Austria, on the other hand, have been put in the role of a team fighting to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament thanks to great games against Finland and Canada. At the moment, the Austrians are in 4th place with 7 points, the same as Finland, but with a game to spare. If the Finns were to lose to both Denmark and Switzerland, there would be nothing to worry about.
The Austrians appreciated the great atmosphere
“It was like a home game, the atmosphere was really excellent,” Vincenz Rohrer started his post-game interview. The 19-year-old forward of Zurich, Switzerland, has scored 2 points for 2 assists so far at the World Championship.
Rohrer then added to his dialogue by saying that he was very pleasantly surprised by the fans who were already singing Austrian songs an hour before the game. “When you play in a big arena, it’s a huge advantage thanks to our fans,” added the talented forward.
“The support of the fans has been incredible throughout the tournament, we really appreciate it. We want to return the support with our performance and hope that the win against Norway made their day and made them happy.”
The Minnesota forward also described a key passage in the 2nd period. Rossi said it was very important to score the 2nd goal right after the 1st goal. This moment tilted the momentum of the game even more to the Austrian side and made the rest of the game easier for them.
