The loser of the day! Djokovic continues to wait for his first success of the year
He has accomplished so much in this place. But Novak Djokovic will not add another title in Rome this year. He had a miserable performance against Chile’s Tabil, and he’s out of the tournament. The Serbian has not improved his impression of this season in the Italian capital. On the contrary.

Djokovic in the spotlight
Together with Rafael Nadal, they reigned here for many years. The participation of both world tennis legends in this year’s edition of the Rome Masters has deservedly attracted a lot of attention.
While Nadal is still in the preparation phase for the French Open and a big result in Rome would have been more of a surprise, more was expected from Djokovic. After all, the world number one is still without a title this year.
He hasn’t even played a final in any of his tournaments. Now it’s clear that he won’t improve on that statistic even in the Italian capital. He’s saying goodbye to the tournament in his second match.
Worse than usual
Djokovic entered his match against Chilean Tabila as the favourite. He was fine after the bottle drop incident . But his performance in Sunday’s third round match was not.
The Belgrade native started both sets equally ingloriously. Losing his serve. In fact, he didn’t even get into the match for a while.
The Chilean tennis player took the world number one 6: 2, 6: 3. He was done with Djokovic in one hour and seven minutes.
Djokovic looked as if he was only on the court out of duty. We can’t see inside his head or body, apparently nobody was happy with such a miserable performance.
Except perhaps Chilean Tabila. Either way, he has the biggest scalp of his tennis career in his pocket. He will play in the eighth round in Rome and for the first time in his career he will be ranked in the world’s elite 30.
