Although the upcoming IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Prague and Ostrava are currently attracting the most attention, the European Football Championship in Germany is also fast approaching.
It will start on 14 June and the Czech national team will be there. The national team will start four days later with Portugal, then play Georgia on 22 June and finish the group stage with a duel with Turkey on 26 June.
However, the European football union UEFA has revealed how much it expects the upcoming tournament in Germany to earn. Based on the latest estimates, the European Championship will generate revenue of 2.4 billion euros, or roughly 60 billion crowns.
In taxes, UEFA, through its subsidiary, will in turn pay 65 million euros (about 1.625 billion crowns in our currency), according to a spokesman for Euro 2024, the company UEFA set up to organise the upcoming tournament.
The money spent from the upcoming championship will be invested by UEFA in football development projects of the member national associations, in a four-year cycle.
According to the press release, it is also clear that the Czech Republic Football Association will receive 9.25 million euros (roughly 225 million crowns) for advancing to the European Championship in Germany alone.
In addition, teams can also earn money through promotions and results at the tournament starting on 14 June. One million euros will be awarded to a team for winning, either in the main group or in the knockout phase. A draw will earn half as much.
