Boston managed to win the second game on Toronto ice, 3:1. In the next game at home, Boston can confirm its advancement to the next stage of the playoffs. The lion’s share of the Bruins’ victory is Brad Marchand, who is rising up the club’s statistics.
In the fourth game of this very interesting series, Ilya Samsonov was in goal for the home team. However, he did not finish the game. On the other side, after criticism about the goaltending rotation, Jeremy Swayman was again in the Boston goal.
The rule here is, if Swayman is in goal, the Bruins leave the game as the winning team, and this was proven again in the nightcap. The first period was rather lackluster for scoring opportunities. Boston forward James van Riemsdyk opened the scoring with less than 5 minutes left in the first period.
However, the second 20 minutes decided the outcome of the fourth meeting. In the eighth minute, Max Domi was sent off and Bruins captain Brad Marchand took advantage of the only numerical advantage in this passage. He then assisted on Pastrnak’s goal.
Marchand rises in the club annals
Marchand is in excellent form in this year’s playoffs. Against the Maple Leafs, he scored his third goal of the series. With 56 goals in the playoffs, the Bruins’ captain has now broken away from Cam Neely at the top of the club annals.
And to make matters worse, he is only the second player in franchise history to record 40 multi-point games in the Canadian-American playoffs.
The club record in that regard is held by the legendary Ray Bourque, with 46 such games. In any case, Marchand once again confirmed why he is such an important player for the American team.
But the game showed something else. While Joseph Woll came into the Toronto goal for the final part of the game, the Bruins goalie stayed in the space between the three poles. Swayman unfortunately lost his clean sheet, but he definitely solidified who will be the number one goaltender in this year’s playoffs. He stopped 24 more shots on the Maple Leafs ice, and his winning magic continues to work.
