Barcelona says goodbye to the Champions League, losing 1:4 at home to PSG. We saw several red cards in the match and even coach Xavi had to leave the bench, who couldn’t keep his nerves in check. He also complained about the referee at the press conference.

Barcelona won by a goal in Paris and were therefore favourites to qualify. At home, they were ahead but squandered the lead. The game was won by a red card for Ronald Araujo, after which PSG started to press hard and later turned the score around.

In the end, the Parisians won 4:1 and will advance to the Champions League semi-finals where they will face Borussia Dortmund, who turned the game against Atlético Madrid and won 4:2 at home.

Apart from Araujo, coach Xavi had to leave the game early as he couldn’t keep his nerves in check and decided to kick a banner next to the pitch, after which the referee gave him a red card.

Xavi didn’t calm down in the stands either, and in the press conference he again took a swipe at referee István Kovács, who in his opinion hurt the match and didn’t officiate it correctly.

“There is no point in discussing the match. The referees ruined everything. We can’t be silent, they changed the match. It was a disaster,” Xavi said at a press conference.

“We are not lucky at all with the referees’ decisions. Since I’ve been coaching Barcelona, they’ve all been against us. I mean absolutely everyone,” he added.

Barcelona notched their first defeat since the end of January and deprived themselves of the possibility of a single season trophy. It is still in the league but trails leader Real Madrid by an abysmal eight points.
