Barcelona get my hands. Sixteen-year-old gem Lamine Yamal is grateful the club rejected PSG’s astronomical offer: I want to be a legend like Messi
The financial crisis, the probable departure of coach Xavi… Barcelona has no shortage of problems to solve. Still, things don’t look completely bad for its future and the reason is that it has several rising stars in its squad. Probably the biggest one is only 16-year-old gem Lamine Yamal, who has got it perfectly sorted in his head.
There have been rumours for some time now that Barcelona could start to incorporate a new gem from their academy into their squad. Lamine Yamal was supposed to be a special talent and at the age of 15 years and 9 months, he already scored his competitive debut in the A-team.
He subsequently completed his training with the Catalan giants and has been given an unexpected amount of space this season. However, it must be mentioned that this is rightly so. Now the 16-year-old gem is putting in outstanding performances, despite his age he is often a difference maker.
Xavi, however, has been cautious with his deployment so far. Fortunately. This was not the case with Pedro and Gavi, who are only a few years older. Both are now plagued by health problems, which appear to be due to overuse. This is something that not only Barcelona fans are warning about with the Blaugranas’ new best hope.
And what’s next? Given Barcelona’s financial crisis, it is no surprise that other clubs are interested in the player. PSG have reportedly eyed him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappé. They even offered an astronomical €200 million. But the Catalans refused.
If the club hadn’t then rejected the offer, the talented footballer would probably have done so himself. Indeed, he recently gave an interview to Mundo Deportivo in which he showed that he is clear about what he wants to achieve in his career.
Lamine Yamal wants to be a Barcelona legend
“I’m happy that Barcelona rejected PSG’s offer. The president of the club (Joan Laporta – ed.) recognises my work, my football. I will be extremely happy if I manage to become a Barcelona legend,” Lamine Yamal said.
“I would be happy if I were like Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Carles Puyol or Xavi. I really hope so. My contract is for another two years, so it’s time to enjoy,” he added.
One of the topics was the number ten on his jersey. That, however, will be worn by Ansu Fati, who is away at Brighton, if he returns. “If he doesn’t stay here, I will be proud to wear the ten. It ‘s every kid’s dream, but it’s up to the club’s decision,” the young Barcelona gem concluded his narrative.
