Adrien Rabiot is one of the best players whose contract expires in the summer. Speculation is starting to circulate as to where the French midfielder could be headed. One of the speculated teams is French side PSG, where Rabiot has already played in the past. However, the player rules out this possibility.
Rabiot at PSG
The French midfielder made his way through Manchester City’s academy and Créteil to PSG’s academy. He made his debut for the French club on 26 August 2012, he was 17 years old at the time.
He scored his only goal of the season and his debut goal in senior football on 9 March 2013 in a 1-0 win over Stade Brestois. In his debut season, he played in a total of 22 matches during which he played 1,370 minutes.
In the following season Rabiot was regularly starting from the bench or even in the starting line-up. With 2 goals and 1 assist he helped his club to another championship title. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the jump to the Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea.
Rabiot played in Paris until 2019. In total, he played 227 games for PSG in which he scored 24 goals and 14 assists. During this tenure, he lifted the Ligue title 6 times and 13 other trophies that the Parisian club won. The number of trophies just goes to show how much dominance PSG has in French competitions.
However, there is one black mark to their reign. In the last season of 2018/19, Rabiot played only 20 games and hardly featured in the second half of the season. It was supposed to be about disrespecting the rules within the club and also getting caught in a nightclub after being knocked out by Manchester United.
A spell at Juventus
Rabiot’s tenure in Italy started at a time when the golden era of Juventus was slowly, but surely, coming to an end. In his inaugural season he started 37 games during which he registered just 1 goal and 1 assist. He was able to lift the Serie A trophy above his head and it was Rabiot’s 7th consecutive season winning the title.
The next season 2020/21 was the last season in which he could lift any trophy, namely the Italian Super Cup and the Italian Cup. Since then, nothing has changed in the Juventus Hall of Fame, not a single medal has been added. Unfortunately, the Turin big club hasn’t performed God knows what on the pitch and has barely secured positions guaranteeing European cups.
He has played 201 games for the Italian team so far, scoring 21 goals and conceding 15. In the current season, Juventus are in 3rd place in Serie A, but in 5th place. AS Roma has a lead of only 8 points. The current form of Allegri’s team is not good at all and the Old Lady will have to catch a second wind if they don’t want to drop down the table.
Rabiot on possible departure
“On the one hand, I’m flattered by PSG’s interest, but it’s really difficult when you know how it ended last time,” the French midfielder began. “I haven’t made any decisions yet. Next season we will play the Champions League and the Club World Cup. These elements also influence my decision, but I haven’t decided yet,” Rabiot added.
