VIDEO: Incredible winning goal in MLS! The wind carried a pass from the middle of the field into the net, helping to complete a sensational turnaround in the 99th minute
Although the MLS cannot compete with the best European leagues in terms of quality, even after the arrival of Lionel Messi or Luis Suárez, this does not mean that the competition does not offer beautiful and interesting football moments. One such moment was on display Saturday night during Chicago’s match against Montreal.
Although the MLS cannot compete with the best European leagues in terms of quality, even after the arrival of Lionel Messi or Luis Suárez, this does not mean that the competition does not offer beautiful and interesting football moments. One such moment was on display Saturday night during Chicago’s match against Montreal.
Saturday night offered three games in MLS. In one of them, Inter Miami took on DC United. Despite the absence of the injured Lionel Messi, the team from Florida won 3:1, with two goals scored by Luis Suárez.
But the goal from the Chicago vs. Montreal game resonated the most on social media. Chicago has been nicknamed the “windy city” for decades. And that’s what helped it turn the game around.
Montreal was on a roll from the start. Twelve minutes in, they were up by two goals after two penalties. But at least Swiss defenseman Maren Haile-Selassie reduced the deficit.
However, in the 70th minute, the Canadian team regained a two-goal lead. This time, Bulgaria’s Dominik Yankov scored. The game seemed to be decided. But the opposite was true. What followed was a crazy drama that was decided in the home team’s favour.
A great MLS drama and a crazy winning goal
The key moment of the match was a sending off for Montreal in the 82nd minute. It was after that that Chicago started to dominate. Just two minutes later, 20-year-old Brian Gutierrez reduced the deficit from a penalty, but the wait for the next goal was long.
However, the equalizer came. Hugo Cuypers tied the game at 3:3 in the fifth minute. To make matters worse, the home team scored one more goal. And what a goal. Midfielder Kellyn Acosta sent a pass into the attacking third from the middle of the field, but to everyone’s surprise, he was able to score.
The wind completely changed the path of the ball and the goalkeeper was unable to react adequately. MLS saw a great moment that is now going viral. Chicago is also celebrating a 4-3 win after a great turnaround.
It is worth mentioning that the team from Illinois won its first ever match this season.
