Edmonton Oilers defeated Pittsburgh Penguins 6:1. Zach Hyman also scored two goals to confirm his second place in the scorers’ table. Connor McDavid also scored again, extending his point streak to 11 games.

This time, the second-line goalies got a chance to score for both teams. Edmonton’s goaltender Calvin Pickard made his 12th appearance of the season. Alex Nedeljkovic played the entire game in goal for the Penguins. He started his 20th game of the season.

Zach Hyman gave the home team the lead in the 15th minute of the first period. He scored his 42nd goal of the season after assists from Draisaitl and McDavid. The skilled forward is having the season of his life, at least in terms of goals scored he is similar to Sam Reinhart.

Hyman’s high is 39 goals from last season and he can even boldly think about breaking the 50-goal mark this season. He’s benefiting mostly from Connor McDavid s transformation from scorer to passer. In addition, he has announced that he wants to try to beat 100 assists in a season.

The Oilers then outshot the hapless Nedeljkovic four times in the second period. Veteran Correy Perry scored consecutively, Hyman scored for the second time in the game, and the latter cemented his second place in the scorers’ table just ahead of Reinhart with his 43rd goal of the season. McLeod and Ceci scored before the end of the period and after two periods the score was 5:0 for the home team.

Connro McDavid and Zach Hyman orchestrated Edmonton big win

In the third period, Connor McDavid scored his 23rd goal and 97th point of the season. This was his 11th consecutive game in which he was able to score in the third place.

At least an honorable success on the Penguins side was recorded by Evgeni Malkin, who deprived Pickard of a clean sheet at 52:23.

The Penguins suffered a debacle on the Oilers’ ice and are again a little bit further away from playoff position. Leon Draisaitl scored 3 assists in the game, Zach Hyman has scored 10 goals in his last 8 games and is experiencing a resurgence as a major scorer for the Oilers this season. In previous seasons, the Draisaitl-McDavid duo were the main scorers.

Edmonton clinched fifth place in the Western Conference with their 4th straight win.
