The perfect holiday! The youngest player in tournament history plays in Rotterdam

The tournament in Rotterdam is the highlight of the indoor season in Europe. And practically right from the start it rewrites its own history. The youngest player in the history of this tennis event has entered the qualification. How old is he and how did his match end?

The tennis tournament in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, follows the indoor tournaments in France and concludes a short tour of the European continent. It is one of the most valuable events in the ATP 500 category.

Three former champions are taking part in this year’s event. The biggest star is the recent Grand Slam winner, the Italian Jannik Sinner.

One of the participants impressed just by appearing on the courts. Thijs Boogaard, a local player, played on a wild card in the qualification.

The youngest player in the history of the tournament

Boogaard is only 15 years old. He will celebrate his 16th birthday in April. No one so young has ever competed in the traditional tournament in Rotterdam.

The young Dutchman has made the local tournament his favourite on the ATP circuit and it is no wonder that he enjoyed his debut here. Even though he lost to Gaston of France.

The match was fairly straightforward. Gaston won both sets 6:3. But that certainly didn’t spoil Boogaard’s joy.

The Dutchman, however, did not hide the fact that he was a bit limited by nerves. “I used to come here as a kid to watch the matches, the fact that I got here as a player is no small thing,” he told the tournament’s official website.

But Boogard gained valuable experience in addition to a great experience. He attracted around a thousand spectators to the tennis court’s stands. And he will continue to gain experience during the ongoing holidays.

In the next few days, he will fly to Egypt. A tennis career takes its toll. It will certainly be interesting to see how Boogaard’s will develop.
