Washington failed again in front of its fans
It was a very close game. Both teams took the win in two quarters. The home team at the Capital One Arena wanted to finally please their fans with a victory on their home court. Before this duel, they had been waiting in vain for their team to win 12 games in a row.
The first quarter was taken by the visiting Philadelphia, but the home team rose to a better game in the second passage of the game and the result was only a 3-point loss for the home team after halftime. A big part of that was the home team’s top scorer Tyus Jones, who put up a total of 25 points.
However, Philadelphia won the third quarter by 7 points. They entered the final quarter with a double-digit lead. The 76ers didn’t let the 76ers take the very important win, although the Wizards were closing strongly. The 43rd defeat of the season and the 13th in a row in front of their fans was not averted by Washington.
Tyres Maxey woke up and pulled Philadelphia to victory
Philadelphia was dragged down by the awakened Tyres Maxey, who after previous miserable performances took the responsibility mainly on himself and was the best scorer of the game with 28 points. He also had 9 rebounds and 7 assists. He found support from Buddy Hield, who contributed 23 points.
Deni Avdija had a very good game for the Wizards, adding 13 rebounds to his 21 points. The home team’s top scorer Kyle Kuzma contributed 21 points. Philadephia held on to the 5th place in the conference as they notched their 31st win of the season.
However, this is an important victory from a psychological point of view for the 76ers. They finally brought the game to a winning end without Joel Embiid. The responsibility for the collective performance was spread across the entire team. Of course, it helped the players that they weren’t playing against the top team of the season.
Philadelphia’s real test will come in two days when they travel to Cleveland. The latter is currently the best team in the NBA, losing only one of the last 17 games. They’ll need to keep an eye on Donovan Mitchell. Coach Nick Nurse will have to come up with a really good strategy for the 76ers to even think about success.
