Instead of a title shot in the Oktagon, Robert Bryczek headed to the UFC, he didn’t make the debut
The UFC offered a rather interesting unnumbered gala this weekend. It was also attractive for Oktagon fans, as former fighter of the Czechoslovakian organization Robert Bryczek went into action. He left for the biggest organization despite the opportunity to fight in the Oktagon for the title. How did he handle the premiere?
The UFC offered a rather interesting unnumbered gala this weekend. It was also attractive for Oktagon fans, as former fighter of the Czechoslovakian organization Robert Bryczek went into action. He left for the biggest organization despite the opportunity to fight in the Oktagon for the title. How did he handle the premiere?
Until relatively recently, Robert Bryczek was one of the leading stars of the Oktagon. He had the chance to become the next Pole who would have the opportunity to not only fight for the title in the Czechoslovakian organization, but also to win it.
After finishing Samuel Kristofic, it was obvious that he was next in line as a challenger to champion Patrik Kincl. The Inspector was looking forward to the duel. He took the Polish puncher as a great challenge. After all, he had won his last five fights by KO/TKO in the first round.
But the fight never happened. Instead of a title shot in the Oktagon , Robert Bryczek headed to the UFC. Straight up. Without having to scramble for a chance like, for example, former champion Kaik Brito, who, by the way, had uncompromisingly destroyed the Pole in the past and who didn’t make it to the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series.
But he waited longer than he would have liked for his first fight in the best organization in the world. Apparently he had visa issues. But the whole situation was resolved and the former Oktagon fighter made his debut on the night of February 10-11 at an unnumbered UFC event in Las Vegas.
His opponent was Ukrainian Ihor Potieria. The Pole was a slight favorite. However, it was not evident in the duel.
Robert Bryczek did not make his UFC debut
While Robert Bryczek went into the fight with a five-fight winning streak, his opponent Ihor Potieria, on the other hand, lost his last two fights. But both were in the UFC, which is simply a different level. This was evident throughout the fight.
While the Pole landed a hard shot in the first minute that rocked the Ukrainian, it was a clear signal to the 27-year-old Potieria to watch out. At that point, Ihor became more cautious, more careful.
The Oktagon veteran eventually had bad luck sticking to his heels. He landed an eye-poke, or punch, to his opponent’s groin. He gradually pulled the short end of the rope in the match. Potieria kicked well, had better movement, was more active.
The second round was even better for the Ukrainian. He looked more relaxed, while the Pole started to show fatigue. However, he had to be careful. Robert Bryczek is famous for his knockout punch and it doesn’t just go away.
This was confirmed in the third five minutes. The Polish puncher hit his opponent’s chin hard right at the beginning, but a few seconds later he was almost knocked out himself. Overall, the third round offered several attractive stand-up shootouts, in which the Ukrainian had the upper hand.
Potieria dominated the duel. Two judges saw him win all rounds, only one judge awarded at least one round to his Polish opponent.
Robert Bryczek did not make his debut in the UFC. He didn’t disgrace himself, but more was definitely expected of him.
