A show of curious goals with a winning ending for Arsenal. Liverpool fell 1:3

Arsenal managed to stay in the title fight, beating Liverpool 3-1 at home. Both sides conceded a curious goal, but the Gunners added two more to win 3-1. Rivals are now two points clear at the top of the table.

Bukayo Saka had the first shot in the fourth minute, but only hit the side netting from a great angle. In the 11th minute, the Gunners made a quick break, but Saka’s header from the small area after a centre from Gabriel Martinelli was again inaccurate.

At the other end, Cody Gakpo threatened, but his cross from the edge of the box was just wide of the far post. And in the 14th minute, he was unfortunate. Martin Odegaard cleverly set up Kai Havertz, who hit Alisson Becker, but Saka had an easy job of the finish.

You don’t score, you get a goal

Liverpool struggled a lot with the Gunners’ intense pressing, the home side’s back line thriving primarily. It wasn’t until the 26th minute that the Reds got a quick action, but it was snuffed out by a defensive save from Gabriel Magalhaes.

And the stopper himself, on the other side, uncharacteristically fired with his foot, Alisson had to stretch. But in the third minute of the setup Arsenal gave their opponents an equaliser, William Saliba miscommunicated with David Raya and Gabriel scored his own goal in a messy situation.

Just after the change of sides, Alexis Mac Allister fired from thirty yards, but just missed the left post. After a good five minutes the Gunners responded, but Odegaard’s attempt from the edge of the box was knocked down for a corner by the Liverpool defence.

Error at the other end helped Arsenal to win

In any case, the picture of the game was more balanced after the change of sides. In the 67th minute, the Reds defence also had a weaker moment. Virgil van Dijk miscommunicated with Alisson and then Martinelli just cleared into an empty net.

Mac Allister could have equalised with a fine free-kick, but missed the right post by a whisker. Jakub Kiwior could have made the difference in the 84th minute, after a pass from Odegaard he was alone in front of Alisson. However, his header was straight down the middle.

Four minutes later, Ibrahim Konaté was shown a second yellow and took an early shower. And in the second set minute, the seal on the win came from Leandro Trossard’s kick, which hit the space between Alisson’s legs.

That leaves Liverpool just two points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League, with third-placed Manchester five points behind and two games to spare.
