Victor Osimhen had offers from the Premier League, La Liga and Saudi Arabia. However, the Nigerian forward stayed in Napoli, but the future of the star is still undecided. Now Chelsea are interested in the star goalscorer and may break their transfer record.
Osimhen was perhaps the most sought-after piece of business in last summer’s transfer window. At one point, it looked like he would not extend his contract with Napoli, but those speculations were then firmly denied by his agent. The Nigerian goal-killer then eventually agreed to a one-year extension.
Now Osimhen has a contract in Naples until the end of June 2026, but the interest in him understandably does not subside. It should be noted, he was already interested in Premier League or La Liga clubs, and there was also an interested player in Saudi Arabia.
However, the reigning Serie A champion has successfully deflected all offers, never making any secret of the fact that keeping the Nigerian sharpshooter is the club’s number one priority.
However, in the current winter transfer window, another suitor has emerged, which is Chelsea of London. The latter, according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, is ready to pay Osimhen’s exit clause at the end of the season.
As we reported above, the Lagos native recently extended his contract at Napoli. However, the new deal includes an exit clause of between €120m and €130m.
Osimhen to Chelsea?
So, if the Londoners actually pay the amount of the exit clause, and thus the 130 million euros, Chelsea would break their transfer record.
However, Blues owner Todd Boehly has already broken the £100 million mark twice. First when he acquired Enzo Fernandez from Benfica and then again for Moises Caicedo from Brighton. There are also rumours from Stamford Bridge that a lucrative salary is in the pipeline for Osimhen.
Napoli, on the other hand, are said to be shocked. Osimhen has reportedly not communicated anything like that to his current employer. In any case, Chelsea will do their best to acquire the Nigerian forward at the end of the season. However, according to Gazzetta, the player himself wants to leave for the Premier League.
