Coufal red card lost West Ham a match-winning goal. Sheffield equalised in the stoppage time
West Ham failed to win their match at Sheffield Wednesday, drawing 2-2 with the Premier League newcomers. Both Czech national team players played the match, Vladimir Coufal was sent off. The goals were scored by James Ward-Prowse and Maxwel Cornet. The Hammers remain in sixth place.

Home Sheffield started actively in a stormy atmosphere, but in the final stages their play was full of inaccuracies. Gustavo Hamer tried his luck from distance in the ninth minute but missed the back post of the West Ham goal by a considerable margin.
On the other side, Jarrod Bowen was the first to threaten, but he took advantage of a defensive error by the Blades only to fire an inaccurate shot from the penalty spot. In the 16th minute, Hamer had a direct kick on the edge of the box, but his rasping effort only ended up in the wall.
In the 28th minute, the visitors celebrated. First Danny Ings crossed the ball to the right where Vladimir Coufal was all alone. After a few seconds, he sent the ball back into the danger area to Ings, whose shot was initially unsuccessful.

Both teams made huge mistakes in the middle of the pitch, one of which led to a great chance for Ings. However, his shot was blocked by the black and white defence. And in the 44th minute, he was unfortunate because Ben Brereton Diaz acted as a goal killer in the whitewash to equalize.
Second half – Coufal sent off, West Ham lose the win
After the change of sides, the home side were active again, but they were not dangerous towards the goalkeeper. In the 58th minute, Diaz went at the goalkeeper alone, but his right foot missed the ball perfectly and missed. A quieter ten minutes followed, with Sheffield still slightly more active.
In the 73rd minute, Ings made his presence felt, but sent in a too slow shot from the edge of the box. Hamer fouled the same player in the penalty area a few minutes later and West Ham had a penalty kick. James Ward-Prowse took the ball and shot into the middle to give the visitors the lead back.
The end of the game saw West Ham play with quite a bit of experience, plus a red card for Rhian Brewster for a foul on Emerson. However, Coufal also saw two yellows in quick succession and from the subsequent direct kick, Sheffield won a penalty.
In addition, goalkeeper Alhonse Areola was injured and Lukasz Fabianski had to come on as a substitute. Despite losing two points, the Hammers remain sixth and Sheffield last.
