Better than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic? Alcaraz has completed his first 200 matches on the ATP. How does he compare to the big three of world tennis?

He was a symbol of 2023, at least the first half of it. Carlos Alcaraz has twice won Grand Slam titles and at the current one he completed the top two hundred of his matches on the ATP circuit. How does he compare to the early careers of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer?

Alcaraz and his great start

The Spanish tennis player burst onto the ATP circuit like big water. Among his greatest achievements are, of course, his triumph at the 2022 US Open and the one at last year’s Wimbledon.

Last year he dominated the clay part of the season, although it was Djokovic who rejoiced at Roland Garros after the Spaniard’s health problems. What hasn’t been can be. After all, this year Juan Carlos Ferrerro’s charge will have two attempts on the famous clay courts of Paris thanks to the Olympics.

But let’s take a look at what the Rafael Nadal admirer achieved during the opening two sets of the duel. He just topped those this week.

Alcaraz won 157 out of 200 matches and rejoiced in winning twelve tournament trophies among which the most valuable two mentioned are from the majors. Yes, it’s tricky to compare different eras, but still, let’s look at what world tennis icons Federer, Djokovic and Nadal achieved early in their careers.

Comparisons with legends

Nadal, early in his career, won one more match than his younger compatriot from the same portion. The king of clay has also won four more titles, but has only rejoiced once at a Grand Slam. Understandably, just on the slowest surface.

Djokovic managed to win 144 of his opening 200 duels and also won fewer titles than Alcaraz. Like Nadal, the Serbian tennis player also triumphed at one major.

You might be surprised to know how slow Roger Federer’s career started in this regard. The Swiss won 124 of his opening 200 matches and won only two titles on the ATP circuit. And he still had to wait to win a grand slam during this time.

Alcaraz thus started his career in style even compared to the big three players. After all, he is at their level or better in most of the attributes monitored.
