The football world has learned some very unpleasant news in the last few hours. Former PSG or Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi was reportedly stabbed in his own home, in what foreign sources say was a dispute over money.

The former Argentina international was rushed to hospital in Uruguay on Tuesday morning with a clavicle injury.

Police sources quoted by El Observador newspaper claim that the Argentine was actually stabbed by a member of his family. TYC Sports, on the other hand, claims that Lavezzi injured himself after falling from a ladder. This was when he was trying to change a light bulb in his house.

Local police have reportedly not confirmed any knife attack or stabbing so far, so the investigation into the incident will continue.

“There is no official report from the clinic and the severity of the 38-year-old former footballer’s condition is not yet known,” the UK Daily Mail quoted the official as saying.

Lavezzi left for the hospital at around 5am, accompanied by his girlfriend

According to Maldonado-based radio station FM Gente, Lavezzi was accompanied by his girlfriend after being admitted to a local hospital. As the official report then also reads, the emergency services arrived at the scene at around 5am.

Although the whole incident must have caused quite a stir, the local police have not yet even confirmed that they have sought out possible witnesses outside the Lavezzi family. We will therefore have to wait for further information of an official nature.

Lavezzi spent the most successful years of his football career at Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain. And it was with the French giant that he won four Ligue 1 titles and two domestic cups.

With Naples in the 2015/16 season he dominated at least the Italian Cup. During his career, Lavezzi played 522 games and scored 142 goals.
