Madness in Turkey: The owner punched the referee, who was still being kicked on the ground!
When a referee cuts your team, sometimes you feel like giving him a hard time. But you don’t, because you’re in a civilized world where disputes aren’t settled by violence. But Faruk Koca, the owner of Turkey’s Ankaraguc, has completely forgotten this and attacked referee Halil Umut Meler.

In a Turkey Superleague, the owner attacked the referee
The absolutely insane footage from the Turkish league has gone around the world. Ankaragucu welcomed in Monday’s match Rizespor.
The hosts went ahead in the tenth minute, but the goal was called back by VAR due to a hand. They didn’t have to be sorry for long, as the goal from the 14th minute after Morutan’s shot was indeed already in effect.
However, in the 50th minute, the home team’s Sow saw a red card and the Ankaraguc players became irritated. After that, however, things evened out, as Rizesport also went down to ten in the 95th minute when Topcu saw his second yellow.
At that point, it seemed that Ankaragucu would secure a valuable win. But in the 97th minute, Argentine Adolfo Gaich equalised at 1-1. And there was fire on the roof.
Ankaragucu owner Faruk Koca ran onto the pitch in a frenzy and knocked out referee Halil Umut Meler with his fist. Several members of the club’s presumably management were still kicking the referee on the ground. Meler then left with a large black eye on his left eye.
Ex-Sparta Prague player Martin Minchev, who was closest to the referee, tried to prevent the whole situation, but to no avail. Afterwards, he at least tried to prevent anyone else from running up to the lying referee.
Erdogan’s conviction and detention
The shameful situation has its own ending. Turkey’s top league has been suspended and has even reached the country’s president. “I condemn the attack on referee Halil Umut Meler during the Ankaragucu – Rizespor match. I wish him a speedy recovery,” said Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
According to local media, both Meler and Koca were subsequently taken to hospital, with Koca being guarded and expected to be arrested for assault after treatment.
meler, 37, is on UEFA’s elite list of international referees, has officiated a couple of Champions League matches and was even in charge of June’s Conference League final between West Ham and Fiorentina played at Eden in Prague.
