Zinedine Zidane has really put down roots in Madrid. After an amazing career and a great coaching career, he left behind three sons. Two of them have already played for Real, now it’s the turn of the youngest.
During his five years at Real Madrid, he ranked among the best players in the world, then achieved incredible things as a coach. He won the Champions League three times in a row, no other club has even managed to defend the competition.
And he left behind three sons. Enzo, the eldest son, was the first to make his debut for Real Madrid. The central midfielder took after his dad and played for Los Blancos in the Copa del Rey and immediately scored a goal. But he didn’t imitate his father, and his career then took a minor league direction. Now, at 28, he is a free agent, having ended up at Fuenlabrada in the summer.
Luca, three years younger, is a bit out of the Zidane family, as he is not a midfielder but a goalkeeper. He served as the number three of Real Madrid’s A-team in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, making one start in La Liga in both seasons.
Subsequently, he was on loan at second division sides Racing Santander and Rayo Vallecano, with whom he was promoted to the league, but lost his number one position after a poor start. Now the 25-year-old goalkeeper is in his second year as number one at Eibar, who are looking to return to La Liga.
And it’s Theo’s turn. The third son of Zidane, the feedback from the Valdebebas training centre goes that he is the greatest talent of the three successors of the legendary footballer. The 21-year-old central midfielder is 196 centimetres tall and has been performing well in the Castilla team led by another legend, Raúl González.
Youngsters in action
At the moment, Real Madrid’s A-team is hit by major health problems. Out of action are Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Vinícius. Luka Modric will also be unavailable against Napoli.
Carlo Ancelotti must therefore bet on youth. Nico Paz, a great Real Madrid talent, has been given some space in recent games, Gonzalo Garcia also made his debut against Cadiz. And now, for the first time in his career, Theo Zidane has been included in the squad for Wednesday’s game against Napoli.
The Marseille native is a France U20 international and arrived at Real Madrid’s academy 13 years ago, so he has been through the youth ranks.
