VIDEO: Goal of the year? Garnacho scored for Manchester United with a scissor kick in the style of his idol Ronaldo, then celebrated like him
Manchester United have been struggling since the start of the season. But now, after the national break, they have shown up at the ground of a floundering Everton, who are also facing a points deduction. The perfect opponent to set the mood right, one would like to say. At least Alejandro Garnacho actually approached it that way, scoring a wonderful goal.

Three losses in the last five games, a struggling offense, unproductive forwards, constant speculation about player-coach disputes. Manchester United simply can’t and won’t get into an ideal state of mind and several reasons could be to blame.
Even Everton, on whose ground he visited after the national break, could have boasted of better form before their mutual duel. However, the Toffees are facing a points deduction, which is certainly affecting the atmosphere in the dressing room. In addition, the quality of the squad is a bit poor compared to the Red Devils.
That’s why the Old Trafford team was seen as a clear favourite. The duel at Goodison Park could have been an ideal opportunity to bounce back to better performances. Whether that will happen remains to be seen. Nineteen-year-old Alejandro Garnacho, however, took it in his stride.
Did Garnacho score the goal of the year?
Alejandro Garnacho is seen as a great talent and has been given a lot of space from the start this season, but he hasn’t convinced with his performances. In fact, he didn’t even have good numbers. Rather, he didn’t have any numbers outside of a single goal in the Carabao Cup.
But that changed against Everton. In the third minute of the game he got the ball after a Diogo Dalot centre, hooked the ball in the air and almost from the edge of the penalty area opened the scissors with a great goal.
Garnacho scored his first league goal this season. Overall, it is his seventh goal for Manchester United’s A-team. The Argentine, by the way, is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose goal from the Champions League final against Juventus he has now emulated.
Red Devils fans, of course, see more parallels. For example, Wayne Rooney’s memorable scissors from the derby against Manchester City. However, Garnacho himself immediately went on to celebrate in the manner of his Portuguese hero, with whom he had the honour of being in the same team.
