I’m listening to you! Kai Havertz sent a clear message to Arsenal fans after the goal. But one swallow doesn’t make a spring
Kai Havertz has been labelled a flop since his arrival at Arsenal. However, he fired the Gunners to victory against Brentford on Saturday and sent a clear message to the fans. His strike is certainly creditable, but so far very little to celebrate.
Kai Havertz has been labelled a flop since his arrival at Arsenal. However, he fired the Gunners to victory against Brentford on Saturday and sent a clear message to the fans. His strike is certainly creditable, but so far very little to celebrate.
Arsenal have moved into the Premier League lead thanks to Saturday’s win over Brentford. It was helped by Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool. Coach Mikel Arteta’s charges now have a one-point lead over the Citizens.
The Gunners were the dominant team throughout the match, even in terms of shooting, but they did not score a goal. That changed with the arrival of Havertz, who replaced Gabriel Martinelli on the pitch in the 79th minute.
For 10 minutes, he had a look around, whereupon Bukayo Saka took the ball and sent it in front of goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s goal, where Havertz was already waiting, who headed the ball into the net.

He celebrated his goal in style and sent a clear message to the fans. “I am grateful for the support of the fans. It’s hard when a transfer comes and they pay a lot of money for you. It’s about hard work, nothing comes by itself and you have to work hard and believe in yourself. I tried to put my ego aside,” Havertz was heard saying after the game.
Arteta was particularly pleased, as he believes in the German midfielder. He doesn’t have anything left, having brought him in for 75 million euros. “I am happy for Kai. Just to see everyone’s reaction, how they like him and what he brings to the team. It’s exactly what he needs,” the Spanish coach reacted to the successful match.
Havertz at Arsenal
Havertz was supposed to be one of the driving forces for the Gunners this season, but unlike most of the summer signings, he has failed to fulfil his potential. This is putting more and more pressure on him.
In October, Arteta only ever deployed him for a few minutes, whereupon he has played virtually every game the Gunners have faced since the Sheffield game. Against Brentford, however, the Spanish coach did not select Havertz in the starting line-up.
But no wonder. The German midfielder has scored just 2 goals in 20 games in an Arsenal jersey so far. Even a single assist, which is expected from him, does not improve this statistic. It must be added that the performances on the pitch were perhaps even worse.
So fans must hope that it really will be about Havertz acclimatising to the Emirates Stadium and gradually improving. If his form is on an upward trend, then only good. For now, though, we’re still talking about one achievement, albeit it means a very important 3 points that count.
