Already during the summer, Luka Modric has been linked with a possible departure from Real Madrid. However, the Croatian midfielder ended up staying at the Santiago Bernabeu. He was particularly interested in Saudi Arabia, where he could indeed head.
In September, Luka Modric celebrated his 38th birthday. But could it have shown in his performance? Rather not. Yes, he doesn’t have such a strong position at Real Madrid anymore, there is a huge competition in the midfield, but whenever he comes on, his presence is felt.
Given his age, there was a lot of speculation during the summer that he might leave the Santiago Bernabeu. One possibility was a move to Inter Miami, where he would play with Lionel Messi.
There were also mentions of interest from Italy, but the most talked about was Saudi Arabia, where several big stars headed during the summer. It is worth mentioning the Croatian’s former teammate Karim Benzema, former PSG or Barcelona player Neymar or Sadio Mané.
The biggest ace in the Saudi Arabian league, however, remains Cristiano Ronaldo. It is his Al-Nassr that has been behind Modric’s move to Riyadh all along.
Will Modric leave Real Madrid?
At the beginning of the year, Luka Modric himself ruled out leaving Real Madrid. But his agent Luca Borja claims that the Croatian midfielder is keeping his options open.
“There was a lot of interest in Luka in the summer. He had several offers. Either from one of the clubs in Riyadh or from other teams. At the moment he is focused on Real Madrid, but he is open to the idea of going to Saudi Arabia under the right conditions,” Borja told Shoot.com.
Modric is under contract at Real Madrid until the end of the season. He is expected to make a decision on his future just before it expires, so he is not in any major hurry to make a decision.
The Croatian footballer has become one of the legends of Los Blancos. He won everything he could with the team, collecting 23 trophies, including five Champions League wins. He has played a total of 503 competitive matches with a record of 37 goals scored and 78 assists, even winning the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
