Real Madrid have been plagued by injuries this season. First, Ancelotti lost Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois for almost the whole season, then Aurélien Tchouaméni joined the long-term injured, and Arda Guler hasn’t recovered from his health problems yet. And now Camavinga.
The Spanish big club is going through a tough time, not on the pitch, where players are doing well on all fronts, but mainly because of injured players. To make matters worse, Jude Bellingham was injured in a league game a week ago. According to several sources, he only had a dislocated shoulder, he finished the game against Vallecano but did not start in the week against Braga.
Bellingham was only seen in the VIP area with his mother during the 4-1 win over Valencia at the weekend. He did not travel to the England national team meeting, for which he was of course called up, and decided to speed up his treatment in Madrid.
Injury in training
Who did travel to the national team meeting, however, was Eduardo Camavinga. The young French midfielder, sometimes referred to as a versatile player, as he can play on the left side of the defence if needed.
Unfortunately, the Frenchman didn’t see the team for the first game against Gibraltar in November. He was injured in Wednesday’s training session, after a clash with Ousmane Dembele left him lying on the ground in pain, injuring his knee. That’s the part of the body that Real Madrid have been struggling with this season, as it is the knee that has already ruled out 2 players for Ancelotti.
The French midfielder will return to Madrid today to undergo a medical. The first examination hasn’t yielded any serious findings yet in the French national team, so the injury doesn’t look too serious, but Real Madrid want to keep everything under control and that’s why they have pulled Camavinga back to their training center.
This season
Camavinga has jumped into all the games this season, in most of them in the starting lineup, and in some he jumped in as a substitute. The competition in the White Ballet’s midfield is great, so it’s no surprise that Ancelotti is rotating the players. The Frenchman has already played 1,061 minutes, which is almost a third of the portion he played for the whole of last season.
He most often starts at defensive midfielder, or a position above that. Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t been able to avoid games on the left edge of defence, where he has been filling in for the Mendy-García duo.
With the drop in playing load for Kroos and Modric, it is Camavinga who can be expected to be given more space on the pitch and it will be him and his midfield peers who will drag the White Ballet in the next few years.
