Alex Pereira: If Jiří Prochazka thinks I can’t do anything on the ground, so much the better for me. I’m confident of a submission, it’s going to be a war!

It’s right here. Tonight, Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will have one of the most anticipated battles of the year. The scales have been filled, and so have the media obligations. The Brazilian puncher in one of his last interviews reacted to the words of the Moravian samurai.

UFC 295 at New York’s Madison Square Garden tonight could deliver a giant sensation, but also a big disappointment. For the Czechoslovakian MMA scene is about to see the biggest fight in history.

Jiri Prochazka will face Alex Pereira. Both are excellent fighters, both are dangerous, both can finish their opponents almost on the spot, both respect each other. This was evident in the way they talk about each other in the media.

The Moravian samurai then teased his opponent in his own way by saying that the Brazilian was worse on the ground and that, on the contrary, the native of South Moravia would be better in every aspect of the fight. Especially the words about the quality of the fight on the ground caught Pereira’s attention.

“It’s not just Jiri. Everyone who fights me thinks so. I wish he was serious, I wish he really believed it. He might be frustrated then. Just like Jan Blachowicz was probably frustrated. He thought it would be easy to bring me down,” Pereira expressed on the Trocação Franca podcast.

Will Prochazka lose on a submission?

In general, the likelihood of the fight ending on a submission from either side is fairly slim. It is more believed that Jiri Procházka could win as a result. However, Alex Pereira does not want to be left behind in any way.

“If my opponent comes in thinking I can’t do anything on the ground, that’s great for me. I’m still developing. I train with Glover Teixeira. I know how hard it is for him to subdue me on the ground,” the Brazilian let it be known.

It’s worth noting that Prochazka has 29 wins, with 25 coming by KO/TKO and only 3 by submission. That’s also why Pereira doesn’t expect the Moravian Samurai to want to take the fight to the ground right from the start of the fight.

“I think he’ll give it a shot if things get tough. But of course anything is possible. If, for example, I’m in a great position where I feel comfortable, I’ll definitely take a chance. I’m confident of a submission, you can be sure of that. I always want to win, no matter which way,” he reports.

He is ready for a five-round battle as well. He has only words of praise for the BJP: “ I have no prediction. It will be a war. You all know our history. George is aggressive and unpredictable. You don’t know where he will strike. I have to be alert and smart.”
