UFC 295 is just around the corner. This weekend, Jiri Prochazka will fight for the welterweight title for the second time in the best MMA organization in the world. The first time was in June 2022 when he defeated Glover Teixeira.
He was supposed to have a rematch with him at the end of that year, but he got seriously injured before the fight and took a long break. But he is now back from that and will fight for the throne again. A lot has happened in that time.
Teixeira retired, Alex Pereira managed to dominate the middleweight division and also lost his belt there, and then he made his debut at welterweight and beat Jan Blachowicz. It is worth mentioning that the champion was Jamahal Hill, who, like Prochazka, was seriously injured and handed the title that Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev fought for, their duel ended in a draw.
In short, a lot has happened in the Moravian samurai’s time. But one thing has remained. Prochazka has been a huge phenomenon since joining the UFC, and fans and media alike have marveled at his lifestyle and fighting style.
His opponent Pereira is also a big star. Both have a lot of respect for each other and their fight, which will be the main event at the UFC 295 gala at Madison Square Garden, is extremely anticipated.
Prochazka and Pereira face off for the first time
Both fighters have been in New York for a few days now. So far, they’ve been primarily performing media duties and praising each other. On Thursday, however, there was a press conference and staredowns as well.
Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira were face to face for the first time. The staredown was calm, yet there was a lot of tension. Both warriors have an almost tangible aura that inspires great respect.
It was nothing wild. However, if anyone was expecting a war before, they were expecting an even bigger one now. It’s evident from the fan reaction. “The calm before the storm,” said Jim Yang on Twitter .
So fans are arguing over who will win. The consensus is virtually non-existent. It is almost impossible to predict the outcome of this duel. The slight favourite, however, is Procházka.
“I feel they both know the other is an absolute beast,” writes one fan on Twitter. “True gentlemen,” adds another. Some individuals were then surprised to find Pereira noticeably smaller than the Moravian fighter.
