Match record
It’s been more than four years since BVB players last celebrated a victory over the Bavarian big club. Since then, the teams have played ten games together, with Bayern coming out victorious every time apart from one draw.
However, it should be noted that many of the games between the two have been marred by individual errors from BVB, which ultimately affected the match to BVB’s disadvantage despite the match starting well. Saturday’s match will be no different – the result will be decided not only by the football skills of the players and the tactics of the coaches, but also by the mentality of the players, which is more on the side of the Bavarians, even considering the record so far.
Performance so far this season
Despite the fact that neither team has tasted defeat in the league so far, it cannot be said that they have entered the current season ideally.
In BVB’s case, the draws with league newcomers Heidenheim and Bochum, after which coach Terzic came under fire for criticism, are an embarrassing loss. A win against Bayern, however, could give BVB the confidence and assurance they have lacked in recent seasons.
Bayern lost ignominiously at home to Leipzig 0:3 in the Super Cup at the start of the season. Despite the poor results, some of Bayern’s performances have been alarming, and of the stronger opponents on paper, only Manchester United have managed to beat them so far, mainly due to the unfortunate performance of goalkeeper Onana.
A possible win over BVB could confirm the improving form. However, if Bayern fail to win this match, the debate on whether Thomas Tuchel is the right coach for the German champion can be expected to intensify.
Betting tips
Bayern’s defence hasn’t worked convincingly at all so far, which is why I think Dortmund will score at least one goal in the second half. For that, Bayern will miss Kimmich in the center of midfield, who received a two-match penalty for the red card he received in the match against Darmstadt.
If BVB enter the second half with the lead, Bayern’s vulnerability to counter-attacks could be exposed and the home side could be punished.
On the other hand, should BVB tighten up, I don’t think Bayern will be able to last the half without conceding a goal in case of pressure from the home team – as mentioned, the defensive system is not working ideally at all and on the other hand, Bayern is quite vulnerable from standard situations, which Dortmund may have a lot of if they tighten up.
