The future of the Czech national team goalkeeper is in the stars. The experienced Jiri Pavlenka’s contract expires in the summer and he has not yet been offered a new contract. Moreover, he has just been injured.
Slowly but surely, Pavlenka has to start figuring out his future. His contract at Werder Bremen is valid only until the end of the season, so his future is very uncertain.
the 31-year-old goalkeeper would probably like to continue at the club where he is currently the clear number one, but the situation could still change. In addition, at a time when he should be starting to figure out his future, he got injured.
Pavlenka will therefore miss at least the next game against Borussia Dortmund. The injury was sustained at the national team meeting, where the Czechs lost to Albania 0:3 and beat the Faroe Islands 1:0 at home.
An injured thigh adductor, or thigh adductor muscle, is what is currently bothering Pavlenko and will not let him between the three sticks. Because of the injury, the player missed the aforementioned match with Faroe Islands.
He was replaced in the national team’s goal by Slavia Prague goalkeeper Ales Mandous, who recorded a clean sheet. However, it must also be said that only one shot flew at the Czechs’ goal.
“The injury is not serious, nothing that would sideline Pavlas for a long time. It‘s unpleasant, however, and we’ll definitely miss him,” commented Bremen coach Ole Werner on his ward’s absence from the game.
“Fortunately, we have a very good replacement in Michael Zetterer,” added the Werder coach. He did not comment on whether Pavlenka will play for Bremen next season.
What are Pavlenko’s options? A contract with another Bundesliga club is out of the question, but a lot will depend on whether and how he will be able to play at the Euro next year.
In theory, he could return home, where both his former clubs Slavia Prague and Baník Ostrava might be interested in him. A possible return to the Fortuna Liga will only be in the cards if Pavlenka doesn’t get a new contract at Werder.
