The Boston Bruins have had a big shorthanded summer. Patrice Bergeron retired after many years, and David Krejci retired in Boston.
So there were concerns about how a weakened Boston would fare. Some even predicted that last year’s best team in the regular season wouldn’t even make the playoffs this year.
But David Pastrnak has taken that to heart and so far he’s dispelling those rumors with goals. First he scored twice against Chicago, then he scored against Nashville and now he scored against San Jose.
Brad Marchand opened the scoring in the first period, and 21 seconds later James Van Riemsdyk added his second goal.
In the second period, Pastrňák took off from his own zone and was racing in front of the net with Marchand when Vlasic caught him from behind, the Czech forward lost his balance, the puck suddenly disappeared and appeared in the net. Literally a goal the world has never seen.
The Bruins are leading the Eastern Conference after three games, although most of their opponents have played 4 or even 5 games.
At the same time, Boston is the only Eastern Conference team that is still 100%. In the West, the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche are still undefeated.
