West Ham also joined the European Cup on Thursday. Coach David Moyes spared key players and rotated the lineup a lot.
Czechs Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal were left on the bench. But the Hammers did not fare well in the revamped lineup.
After half-time, they went into the booths at 0:0 and immediately after the change of sides, Bačka Topola shocked London Stadium. Petar Stanic opened the scoring in the 48th minute.
But West Ham came out hard. Petrovic scored an own goal in the 66th minute and four minutes later Kudus sent West Ham into the lead after an assist from Ward-Prowse.
By then, Tomas Soucek was on the pitch as well, presumably to help preserve the winning goal. But the Czech captain, on the other hand, confirmed the victory for West Ham.
In the 82nd minute, Soucek ran onto a Ward-Prowse corner kick and sent the ball into the net with a header. He secured the Hammers’ first Europa League group win.
He also scored in a West Ham jersey after five long months. At the start of his engagement he was in incredible shooting form, but then his shooting dust got wet.
