The old famous Camp Nou is disappearing and a new, more modern stadium will be built in Barcelona. But the Catalans are so eager to get to work that they are breaking the rules. And so the club had to pay a fine.

Barcelona City Hall has started proceedings to fine FC Barcelona for the Spotify Camp Nou works. This is because the club broke the rules on the construction.

In fact, the city allowed the Blaugranas to carry out work on the stadium from 8am to 8pm. An hour later, work can then take place, but without the noisy machinery in operation.

On Thursday 14 September, however, the club did not respect these regulations and work continued until midnight, even into the early hours of the morning, according to the Relevo newspaper. The club has already violated the working hours once, in mid-August.

The city council is working with FC Barcelona to resolve these violations and in the coming days residents will be called to a meeting where all the explanations and clarifications that are necessary will be given,” said Barcelona City Hall.

However, the club does not have to worry that the fines will have any significant impact on the operation of the redevelopment. Both fines will amount to 300 euros (7,330,-). So it is not an extra expense for Barcelona.

November 2024

And when is the stadium due to be finished? The first opening is scheduled for November 2024, although it is expected that the work will not be completed until 2025. Until then, Barcelona will play in the stadium under construction, as Real Madrid have done in previous seasons.

It is possible that the works are a little behind schedule and therefore have to catch up after midnight. However, if it is only these fines that will be penalised, it probably won’t deter Barcelona too much.
