Matěj Vydra’s return to the Czech Republic didn’t go quite as he had hoped. Despite the interest from abroad, it looks like he will stay in the west of the Czech Republic and will wear the jersey of Viktoria Plzeň.
Matěj Vydra’s return to the Czech Republic didn’t go quite as he had hoped. Despite the interest from abroad, it looks like he will stay in the west of the Czech Republic and will wear the jersey of Viktoria Plzeň.
When Matěj Vydra left Baník in the summer of 2010, it was expected that he would have a great career ahead of him both at club level and at the national team level. However, due to frequent injuries, this did not happen.
One of the most successful seasons Vydra experienced in the Watford jersey. In the 2012/13 season he scored an incredible 22 goals in the Championship, which earned him a Premier League contract at West Brom.
However, he failed to fully establish himself among the English elite, which is why the Baggies decided not to extend his loan. At that time, he was still a tribal player of Italian Udinese.
The national striker had two more very successful seasons in the Championship. Thanks to that, he got another chance in the Premier League, this time in a Burnley jersey.
In four seasons, he appeared in 72 league games, scoring eight goals and assisting seven more. He left Turf Moor at the end of the 2022 calendar year and headed to Viktoria Plzeň as a free agent.
During the spring, he made sixteen starts in the Fortuna Liga, helping Plzeň to a third-place finish with four goals. However, he picked up another injury in the loss of the new season, which is why he spent only 69 minutes on the league pitch during the current season.
However, according to inFotbal, foreign clubs are interested in his services. Apart from Turkish clubs, a team from Saudi Arabia was also expected to offer the thirty-one-year-old striker a two-year contract with an annual salary of 1.5 million euros (about 36 million crowns).
However, it seems that Matěj Vydra will stay at Doosan Arena at least until the end of the autumn season, even if he is in the regular group of the European Conference League.
