Only seventeen-year-old Sara Bejlek gave probably one of the worst performances of her career in the first round of the US Open qualification. The talented tennis player from the Czech Republic failed to win a single game.
Sára Bejlek will celebrate her 18th birthday next January. Despite this, she can be found in the WTA rankings at 213th place. If we take only tennis players under 18, she would be ranked fifth.
The native of Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou successfully qualified for the Australian Open in January. In it she defeated, among others, Alycia Parks, who is currently 43rd in the WTA rankings.
In the first round of the main competition, however, she was not able to beat her more experienced compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. In May, Sara Bejlek managed to qualify for the French Open as well, but in the first round she lost to Rakhimova.
In the qualification for Wimbledon, she fell in the first round to Brenda Fruhvirtova, and a similar scenario repeated itself at the US Open. Her opponent was Yafan Wang of China.
She managed to dominate a fairly well-attended tournament in Stanford a week ago. In the final, she defeated the aforementioned Russian Rakhimova in sets 6: 2 and 6: 0.
Wang is therefore in great shape ahead of the final Grand Slam tournament of the current season. The 6: 0 and 6: 0 results against Sara Bejlek only confirmed this.
The Czech tennis player managed to create five break point opportunities during the match, all in the second game of the match. However, she was unable to take advantage of any of them.
The Czech managed to play only eight balls on her serve. She will definitely want to forget this performance soon. She will have the chance next week at the tournament in Prague.
