Czech goalkeeper Barbora Votíková can rejoice in her new engagement. After an unlucky ending at PSG, she is moving to the Isles, where she will wear the Tottenham Hotspur jersey.
The popular goalkeeper and prominent personality on Czech social media can look forward to a new assignment after a long break.
In August 2021, she announced her transfer to PSG, but it didn’t work out as she had hoped. Last May, she suffered a serious injury to her right knee in a Champions League rematch against Lyon, which required an eleven-month recovery and she has not played since.
She managed to play thirteen matches during her engagement, in which she kept ten clean sheets. This is the best 77% success rate of all goalkeepers who have played at least 10 games in the last 2 seasons in the French league.
The lingering injury was one of the reasons why PSG decided not to extend her contract. According to her words in an interview with TN.cz, several reasons played a role, but the injury was one of the main ones.
Several clubs were interested in Votíková, but her dream was to play in the Islands. That dream will come true as she will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur.
And how is the north London club’s women’s team doing? Let’s just say that Barbara will probably have her work cut out for her in goal.
They finished last season ninth in the table out of a possible twelve and with an unflattering record of thirty-one goals scored and forty-seven goals conceded.
The twenty-six-year-old goalkeeper should wear the number one jersey on her back. The new edition of the Women’s English League is scheduled to start in October.
