Will Hložek have more space? Manchester City are considering buying his talented teammate
The new season of German football is slowly knocking on the door and Adam Hložek is facing an unpleasant complication. He didn’t get nearly as much space in the preparation as he probably would have liked. However, there are now speculations that he might get a spot in the lineup after the departure of his teammate.
The new season of German football is slowly knocking on the door and Adam Hložek is facing an unpleasant complication. He didn’t get nearly as much space in the preparation as he probably would have liked. However, there are now speculations that he might get a spot in the lineup after the departure of his teammate.
Bayer Leverkusen will have their last preparation match before the start of the new season on Saturday afternoon. It will face England’s West Ham, while the traditional German club will play in the German Cup in a week’s time and the Bundesliga kicks off the following week.
During the summer, the skilful Moussa Diaby left Leverkusen, which is quite a big setback for the club, but it can also help. Diaby often soloed and often overlooked teammates in better positions. The attack could now be much more variable.
However, Bayer have to deal with several inconveniences. They brought in Victor Boniface for the long-term injured Patrik Schick, but he didn’t score as many goals in his previous engagements. Overall, the offensive part of the lineup can be expected to change every game.
One of the annoyances is the possibility of the talented gem Florian Wirtz leaving Leverkusen. That would be a big blow for the club. The German whizz-kid returned during last season after a serious injury and although he hasn’t yet followed up on the performances before him, he has done well.
It’s no wonder that there is interest in the 20-year-old footballer. However, if he were to leave, it could mean more space for Adam Hložek, who hasn’t received as much time on the pitch in preparation.
Manchester City are bidding for Wirtz, but a transfer is rather unlikely. The German footballer wants to play at next year’s domestic Euros and probably doesn’t want to risk not making a name for himself and missing out on the championship.
Plus, the catch is that Pep Guardiola doesn’t exactly rely on the number ten position. However, if he is interested in Wirtz, it’s a safe bet that he would be able to find him another spot in the lineup where he could tap into his potential. Maybe in a way no one would expect. But the German talent is quite versatile and plays decently from the wing as well.
Wirtz would cost the Citizens dearly though. Transfermarkt values him at €85 million. Leverkusen would certainly not want to get rid of him any cheaper. Quite possibly the opposite.
