LPL: The battle of China’s best teams went clearly for JDG

Although it doesn’t look like it, we are definitely keeping an eye on the Chinese LPL playoffs. Sunday gave us a treat in the form of a battle of the very best.

The clashes between Bilibili Gaming and JDG have become something of a tradition and a hit parade in the League of Legends world this season. This time around, the teams collided in the semi-finals of the playoffs and a flying, heavyweight battle was definitely expected.

BLG, compared to JDG, had a cleaner record from the regular season and rightfully dominated it as well. JDG were brought down by individual errors and occasional lapses in performance.

Still, the duel between two of the best teams of today (if we still take MSI into account) should offer the first act of the upcoming and expected final.

However, the anticipation of a literal war for the King of China was replaced by a cruel sobering. Once again, JDG showed BLG that the performances of the regular season don’t matter. You can be as dominant as you want, but in the playoffs the differences blur.

That’s exactly what JDG showed their opponent. The BLG have been pulling out the stops all series. The defending champion showed a lesson in efficiency and great preparation. Occasional hints of BLG dramatizing the series were quickly brushed off.

The 3-0 result speaks for itself and BLG must go into a corrective series against LNG. With the win, JDG also became the first team behind LPL to secure a spot at Worlds.

The battle between LNG and BLG will not be just about who will challenge JDG for the title. The series will also be crucial for seeding at Worlds. The winner takes the second certain spot out of four to the Worlds. The loser will be the highest seed in the regional qualifiers, where the top four teams for the season will compete for the two remaining spots at Worlds.
