England’s representatives have already played their second group game of this year’s Women’s World Cup.
In their first match, England were successful against Haiti, winning 1-0. Twenty-four-year-old Bayern striker Georgia Stanway scored the only goal, converting a penalty kick in the 29th minute.
On Friday morning, Sarina Wiegman’s charges faced their next opponents, namely the Danes.
And it is safe to say that the Englishwomen’s activity from the beginning of the match decided the outcome of this encounter. Already in the 6th minute Lauren James was able to shoot from outside the sixteen, and with a beautiful shot she curled the ball into the net.
You can see the whole moment in the video below. It should be noted that, despite the narrowest of margins each time, England won for the second time at this World Cup and now lead Group D.
The England players also had the upper hand in the match against Haiti in terms of statistics. The ball possession was clearly in their favour (70% to 30%) and they produced a total of 12 shots on their opponents’ goal.
Situation in Group D
As we have already written above, England’s national team is leading Group D after two games and with 6 points.
China and Haiti are third and fourth respectively. Both of these teams have played only one match at this year’s Women’s World Cup and both lost (0:1). On Friday, at one o’clock in the afternoon, their duel against each other kicked off.
