One of the most anticipated debuts of the year is over. Lionel Messi made his first appearance for Inter Miami and immediately shone with a stunning winning goal from a direct kick in the 94th minute, helping them to a 2-1 win over Mexican team Cruz Azul.
The Argentine world champion ended Inter Miami’s wait for a win. His new team had won only one of their ten matches before the duel with Cruz Azul. He became a hero, his goal was celebrated by stars like LeBron James, Tom Brady, Serena Williams and Kim Kardashian.
Club owner David Beckham or coach Tato Martino praised the winner of seven Ballon d’Or after the match, but Messi himself showed once again that he is a great character and there was no egotistical and self-singing talk.
Any reaction to the words of Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently claimed that the Saudi Arabian league is better than MLS? Nope. Talking about himself? Nope. In fact, Messi dedicated the win to one of his teammates.
“Let me dedicate the win to Ian Fray, who was injured in the match and was in the dressing room worrying. He had recently returned from a serious injury and today he was unlucky to be injured again,” said the greatest footballer in history right on the pitch.
Twenty-year-old Fray tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in February 2021 and has been recovering for more than two years. He is an Inter Miamu offspring and is valued at €75,000 according to Transfermarkt.
Fray is one of Miami’s youngest footballers, among others, so Messi’s words are all the more valuable, including the fact that he has already managed to learn the history of his new teammates in such a short time.
