The Spanish champion is strengthening ahead of the start of the upcoming season. After three officially announced reinforcements, another and probably the most surprising transfer is on the way. Barcelona will be reinforced by an experienced midfielder from Girona.

The Catalan club has so far managed to bring in three reinforcements for three different positions. Central defender Iñigo Martínez and midfielder Ilkay Gündogan have signed for Barcelona as free agents.

The most financially costly so far has been 18-year-old winger Vitor Roque, who arrived from Brazilian side Athletico-PR. The transfer, with possible bonuses, could reach up to 60 million euros.

In this case, however, these are bonuses whose conditions will not be met until several years from now at the earliest. This is because they also include top positions in the Ballon d’Or poll.

The fourth signing will be the experienced Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu, whose transfer should cost no more than €4.5 million. The transfer will also include the one-year loan of Pablo Torre.

It is probably not entirely surprising that this transfer is causing controversy among the club’s fans. Those who don’t want to jump to conclusions compare it to the transfer of Brazilian Paulinho. He too did not meet with the best reception, but in the end it was a very valid reinforcement.

Barcelona terminated the contract of club legend Sergio Busquets before the end of the season due to the club’s reduced wage bill, but also for the vision of future rejuvenation of the squad. The arrival of the footballer, who will be thirty-two in September, may not meet the expectations that the fans had.

Oriol Romeu is returning to where his footballing journey began. As an offspring of the club, the furthest he has made it so far is the reserve team, from where he travelled to Chelsea in 2011.

He went on to play for Valencia, Stuttgart and Southampton. From there he went to Girona, where he settled into the starting line-up. Already finished his last season, he played 33 games with an average of almost ninety minutes per game.
