The revolution in Milan continues! There is no replacement for the sporting director, Maldini’s post has been filled by a youth scout
Over the last month, AC Milan’s management has made a lot of changes. And it’s safe to say that they’ve been very fundamental. Starting with the sacking of Paolo Maldini as technical director and ending with the sale of heartthrob Sandro Tonali. Another change is the appointment of a new sporting director.
After the end of the 2022/23 league season, a strong earthquake indeed hit AC Milan. American owner Gerry Cardinale sacked legend Paolo Maldini as technical director, and along with him, sporting director Ricky Massara also left.
It didn’t take long for the massive tremors in Milan to continue. And it’s safe to say that the hearts of Red and Black fans continued to be torn apart.
The club nodded to an offer, albeit a very solid one, from Newcastle United and sold Sandro Tonali, currently one of the greatest talents in Italian football. A revolution has taken place, AC have gone in a different direction, the fans think so.
And most of them will probably be right. On the other hand, the club’s management finally completed the transfer of Ruben Loftus-Cheek a while ago and there is talk of other reinforcements yet to arrive at the San Siro.
However, back to the managerial positions. AC still haven’t actually found full-fledged replacements for Maldini and Massara, whereupon, as Italian site Calciomercato reports, choosing the right people will be a matter of a longer-term nature.
There is no replacement for Massara so far. Instead, the club has decided to entrust the job of sporting director to general manager Giorgio Furlani and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada. Coach Stefano Pioli will also have a say.
And as for the post of technical director, the AC management has promoted Antonio D’Ottavio to the position of chief youth scout. He has worked closely with Moncada in recent years and has become his right-hand man.
D’Ottavio has been at San Siro since July 2017 and has also previously worked at Inter Milan, Sunderland and Torino.
