Sevilla are facing a very difficult period after celebrating their Europa League triumph, when the club’s management has to deal with their financial situation, as according to journalist Pedro Pablo Parrado from Radio Marca, the Spanish club is drowning in debt, which they will have to solve by selling their players.
According to Parrado, president Pepe Castro has already informed everyone at the club that their debt is 90 million euros and the logical solution to this situation is to sell players. Allegedly, every footballer currently playing in a Sevilla jersey is thus for sale.
The Spanish club have reportedly already informed European clubs of their intention to sell. With negotiations already in process regarding some players, such as the possible transfer of Lucas Ocampos to Fulham.
The team of coach Jose Luis Mendilibar is certainly interesting and offers some players that will be in high demand on the market. There’s just one small catch..
Sevilla’s overage team
Last season, Sevilla were the third oldest club in La Liga with an average of 28.6 years per team. The Spanish outfit didn’t exactly fare well either, eventually finishing in 11th place just 9 points above the relegation places.
Sevilla’s squad is full of excellent players such as goalkeeper Bono (32 years old), outside back Marcos Acuña (31 years old), midfielders Ivan Rakitic (35 years old) and Nemanja Gudelj (31 years old) and winger Suso (29 years old). And we could go on.
The club’s success was primarily based on these players last season and looking at their age, it is clear that the future will be very difficult for the club. Especially as they still need to sort out their large debt. Thus, winning the Europa League final now seems like a big saving grace for the club itself.
Possible players for sale
Of course, we haven’t mentioned others who were key for coach Mendilibar last season. Indeed, they are already offering appreciation that should ensure the club’s continued functioning.
One of the most interesting names speculated to be heading elsewhere is winger Lucas Ocampos (28 years old). As mentioned, the skilful Argentine is reportedly set to strengthen Fulham.
However, the potential transfer is expected to cost the English outfit €15 million, the amount for which Ocampos was bought by Sevilla from Marseille in the summer of 2019.
However, the most money should be made by striker Youssef En-Nesyri (26 years old), who has scored 18 goals in 48 games in a Sevilla jersey. At the World Cup in Qatar, he scored two goals for Canada and Portugal (both winning goals).
According to Football España, Newcastle are the most interested in the Moroccan striker, with a figure of €35 million being mentioned.
However, Sevilla are facing a really difficult period, with a major transformation that will not be easy over the next few seasons. It will therefore be interesting to see how the club performs in the next league season, as this has certainly been one of the worst in many years.
